Global Advanced Metals was formed in 2010 after our tantalum
operations were separated the then Talison Minerals to create a new
and distinct company focused specifically on metals for the future.
At that time our key assets were the Wodgina tantalum mine and the Greenbushes tantalum mine and
concentrating plant, both in Western Australia. Together, these two
operations represented one of the world's largest resources of
tantalum.
Both operations had been placed on care and maintenance during the
2008 - 2010 global economic downturn, but they were brought back
into operation in early 2011 by our current management
team as a result of an upturn in demand, particularly from the
electronics and aerospace industries.
In 2011, we purchased the US-based Cabot Supermetals business,
which turns tantalum ores and concentrates into a range of metallurgical products and
different grades of capacity powders.
As a result of this acquisition we added the Boyertown
processing plant and a research and development facility, both in
the United States, plus the Aizu processing plant in Japan, to our
existing mining and concentrating operations.
Our long-term vision is to build a vertically integrated, global
business that can supply all our customers needs for tantalum
products as well as other advanced metals. We will continue to
invest in the research and development into
new tantalum products that is required to ensure continuing use of
this material by future-focused industries.
Our most important commitment is to ensure that at all times we
are a responsible tantalum supplier by
delivering conflict free products into the global supply chain.
